From Lautoka to the high seas

Steiner cruise-ship recruitment interview session at the Pivot Point Fiji campus
Steiner recruitment interviews at the campus, 2019

Pivot Point graduates have been recruited to work in spas on cruise ships around the world.

Steiner, the company that runs spas on many of the world’s cruise lines, has twice sent its Australia and New Zealand recruiters to Pivot Point Fiji to interview our students and graduates, in 2017 and again in 2019. Around 30 people put themselves forward each time, from hairdressing, beauty therapy and fitness.

By the end of 2019, current and former students had boarded their ships. They went with a Certificate III in Body Therapy, a Diploma of Esthetics or a Diploma of Hairdressing, and with the confidence that comes from having trained on real clients every week.

Beauty therapy training on the Lautoka campus: the skills cruise-ship spas recruit for

A cruise-ship contract is hard work and long days, but it pays well, it takes you around the world, and it looks very good on a CV when you come home. For a therapist from Lautoka or Suva, it is a door that was not open a generation ago.

Steiner is one of the career paths we talk to every student about. Our graduates also work in resort spas across Fiji, in salons they have opened themselves, and overseas in Samoa, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
