Our story

Pauline Mow-Campbell with the Pivot Point Fiji team at the Lautoka campus

The team at the Lautoka campus

A family business, built on forty years in salons and more than two decades of teaching.

Pauline Mow-Campbell opened her first salon in Fiji in 1982. By the 1990s she was running Pauline’s Hairdressing Salon and The Style Gallery Day Spa, and training her own staff through apprenticeships. As President of the Fiji Hairdressers and Beauty Therapists Association she led the Compass apprenticeship programme in 1995 with the national training authority and New Zealand partners, the first structured apprenticeship for the trade in Fiji.

In 2002 she turned that experience into a school in Lautoka. The first newspaper advertisement called it the first school of cosmetology and health science in Fiji, and it was.

The school became a Pivot Point International member school in 2003, with region-exclusive agreements with Pivot Point International, Australia and New Zealand. Pivot Point educators from Australia flew in to assess our first students. Pauline has since served a second term as President of the association she helped build.

Today Pivot Point Fiji has campuses in Lautoka and Suva, is registered with the Higher Education Commission Fiji, and has trained thousands of Fiji’s hairdressers, barbers and beauty therapists. It is still run by the family, and still built on the same idea: you learn this trade by doing it, on real clients, under someone who has done it for years.
